I have discovered how I am going to keep myself from overeating on
Thanksgiving Day.

I woke up with a toothache this morning.
I thought something was going on with a tooth over the weekend,
but I thought if I just ignored it, it would go away.
No such luck.

I am headed to the dentist tomorrow.

And can I just go ahead and admit it,
I hate going to the dentist,
I get myself all worked up and anxious over going.

#2's sorority at NC State recently had Family Weekend.
It is a weekend full of events, open houses and tailgating at the football game with all of the members of the sorority and their families.
On Friday night there was a cocktail reception at a restaurant in downtown Raleigh.

After dinner hours, I guess this place turns into a nightclub because there was a dance floor and a band setting up in the corner. They had half of the area set up for the reception and the other half was open for business as usual.
There was a line to get in and someone at the door checking ID's.

#3 is 12 years old and she was carded before she was allowed to go in.
She had no clue what was going on, why they were asking her for an ID and why they put that big fat X on her hand.

When I explained it to her she was mortified.

#1 and #2 thought it was a glorious event in her life and was so proud of that X on their little sister's hand.

Oh the mind of a 20 and 18 year old girl..........and the things that are important to them and impress them are just a mystery to me!

Well, it is time for me to play catch up!

The services for my mother in law have come and gone.
The reality of it all is just setting in on my husband. He is thankful that his mom is no longer sick and in pain, but I know he misses her.

My mother has had scans and tests galore. She had to start emergency radiation because she was in danger of a stroke because of a tumor in her brain even before getting any real answers. Tomorrow she has an appointment at
Duke University with a specialist so I know that we will have answers tomorrow....
like them or not.
I am going and am really anxious about it. I've never done anything like this before.
I am just emotionless right now.

I want to get on to some happier, lighter more pleasant things now.

Remember this scene,
#3 in the ER with two broken bones?

Her big sister talked her into getting a white cast

so that she could decorate it.

#2 is a design student in college and she came home the night #3 got her cast
and spent several hours drawing on it.

#3 was up way past her bedtime and we payed for it the next morning!

What a great big sister she is!!

(She would make a great tattoo artist, but her father would probably disown her first!)

I didn't get a very good picture of the finished project. I will have to make sure I take one before she gets the cast off. She is getting annoyed with it and is counting the days!

My mother in law passed away on Sunday.

She had a stroke about 8 weeks ago and wasn't able to recover.

My mom is not well.

I took her for emergency radiation and a brain scan today.

She has cancer.

It is serious.

It sucks.

I will be back.

I am reading and keeping up with you guys....

I just don't have time for much else right now.

Just a quick little post to share pictures of #3's Halloween.
She had some friends over so that she would have someone to Trick or Treat with.
I was exhausted, but knew she needed to be able to be a kid for a change.
Sometimes we forget that no matter how mature our little ones act, they need to be able to put away the grown up problems and stress and just have a little fun.

The weather was wonderful and the neighborhood was full of families out walking.
I don't remember a warmer Halloween.

So many people thought that the sling and injured arm was apart of the clumsy nerd costume.

Yep, that is toilet paper hanging from her fanny!

This was such a good idea until the golf cart battery died at the far end of the neighborhood and I had to go get them and pull them home with my car.
(Note to self - go to Home Depot and buy some rope.)

I imagine this very well may be our families last trick or treating experience.
#3 is in the seventh grade and is aging out. I am sure there will plenty of Halloween costumes I'll need to get together for her for parties and all, but it won't be the same.
After having a trick or treater in the house for 18 years straight it will be a little sad next year.
It stinks how good things eventually have to come to an end.
